The experience

Seongsan Ilchulbong anchors the day. This UNESCO-listed tuff cone rises 182 meters on Jeju's eastern seaboard, its bowl-like crater and layered inner structures visible from the rim. You spend an hour here before lunch. From there the route moves south and west through the island's quieter coastline: Seopjikoji (a traditional village with stone walls built to shield roofs from wind), Gwangchigi Beach (where Seongsan Sunrise Peak frames the horizon in the distance), and Oedolgae, a sea cliff formation. Jeongbang waterfall, one of Korea's few waterfalls that drop directly into the ocean, sits on this same southern stretch.

Manjanggul Cave is the geological centerpiece. One of the world's largest lava tubes at 7.4 kilometers long, it formed thousands of years ago and remains exceptionally well preserved. The tourist path runs 1 kilometer into the second entrance, passing stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and lava shelves before reaching the lava column at the end: 7.6 meters high and the tallest known in the world. The cave's width reaches 18 meters and its height 23 meters, so the scale becomes clear as you walk through.

Because this is a private tour, you move at your own pace and skip the group shopping stops that fill shared itineraries. A driver fluent in your language handles the route and timing. Pickup happens from your location in Jeju, and the van or taxi size adjusts to your group: regular taxi for two to three people, minivan or jumbo taxi for four to seven, or minibus for eight or more. Fuel, parking and insurance are built into the price.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.

What is Seongsan Ilchulbong and why does it take an hour to see?

Seongsan Ilchulbong is a UNESCO-listed tuff cone 182 meters high on Jeju's eastern coast, formed from volcanic rock and shaped like an ancient castle. Its preserved bowl-like crater and layered inner structures are visible from multiple angles around the rim, and the sea cliffs below add to the views. An hour gives time to walk the crater edge and take photos without rushing.

Can I actually walk inside Manjanggul Cave, or is it just viewing from outside?

You walk inside Manjanggul Cave for about 1 kilometer along the tourist path, which enters through the second of three entrances. The passage is wide (18 meters) and tall (23 meters), so you move through comfortably past stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and the 7.6-meter lava column at the end of the accessible section.

What happens if Manjanggul Cave is closed when I book?

Manjanggul Cave is currently closed for safety inspection and internal construction through August 2025. When the cave is unavailable, the tour substitutes the Jeju Haenyeo Museum, which documents the culture and history of Jeju's traditional women divers and their role in island life.

Do I need to arrange my own transportation to the tour starting point?

No. Pickup from your location in Jeju is included in the tour price, and the driver drops you back at the same place when the day ends. The vehicle size depends on your group: regular taxi, minivan, jumbo taxi or minibus.

Is lunch included, and what about meals or drinks during the tour?

Lunch is not included in the tour price. The itinerary includes a lunch break after Seongsan Ilchulbong, but you choose where and what to eat. Bring water or purchase drinks along the route. Cafes line the streets near Woljeongri Beach and other stops.
