Walk the southern coast where waterfalls meet the sea and volcanic stone pillars rise from the waves

A private tour of south Jeju with an English-speaking driver guide covers six to eight hours of walking paths, waterfalls, and coastal landmarks between Seogwipo and the western cliffs. Pickup and drop-off from your Jeju location are included, as are fuel and parking. The driver offers 10–15% discounts on activity entry fees if you choose to add a submarine, jet boat, or cruise. The tour visits Soesokkak valley, Namwon Keuneong's cliff-edge walking path, Jeongbang Waterfall, Oedolgae sea stack, columnar joints, and Cheonjiyeon Falls, with stops at Seogwipo Olle Market and other sites depending on your pace and interests.

The experience

The tour starts with pickup from wherever you're staying on Jeju, then moves south toward Seogwipo. Soesokkak, a lava-formed valley in Hahyo-dong, opens the route: oddly shaped rocks, deep water, and pine forest create the kind of landscape that feels both untouched and deliberately arranged. The valley sits in citrus country, so the air carries the smell of tangerine groves. From there, the driver takes you to Namwon Keuneong, a clifftop site where a two-kilometer walking path runs along the coast, with a flat grassy summit and two natural sea caves carved into 30-meter rock faces. The waves have been rolling in for centuries. The cliffs stay still.

Jeongbang Waterfall is the centerpiece. It's the only waterfall in Korea where water falls directly into the sea. The drop is 23 meters, black cliff behind it, two streams of water creating a sound and spray that carries across the rocks. Old pine trees frame the view. Oedolgae, a 20-meter stone pillar standing alone in the water, comes next. It was formed when surrounding rocks eroded away and only the strongest stone remained, a process geologists call a sea stack. The columnar joints on the eastern coast of the Jungmun Tourist Complex are hexagonal stone pillars stacked like a folding screen, dark red and geometric, created by ancient volcanic shifts. When waves are strong, they rise over 20 meters high. Cheonjiyeon Falls, 22 meters high and 12 meters wide, drops from a rock cliff into a valley where rare plants and giant mottled eels live in the water below.

The driver guide speaks English and knows the route well enough to adjust the pace to what you want to see. If you're interested in a submarine, jet boat, cruise ship, or museum visit, mention it and the driver will arrange it with a discount built in. Seogwipo Olle Market, the largest traditional market in the area, is a possible stop. It has covered arcades, free parking for the first hour, and a delivery service if you buy anything. The tour runs six to eight hours depending on how long you spend at each stop and whether you add activities. Fuel and parking are already paid for in the price.

Top questions

What is Jeongbang Waterfall and why is it special?

Jeongbang Waterfall is the only waterfall in Korea where water falls directly into the sea, dropping 23 meters down a black cliff into the ocean below. Two streams of water create a thundering sound and spray, and the steep cliffs and old pine trees around it create a view that was chosen as one of the Ten Scenic Sights of Yeongju.

Can I add activities like a submarine or jet boat to the tour?

Yes, if you want to experience a submarine, jet boat, cruise ship, or museum, you can discuss it with the driver guide when you book or during the tour. The driver offers 10–15% discounts on entry fees for these activities.

What are columnar joints and where do I see them on this tour?

Columnar joints are hexagonal stone pillars formed by ancient volcanic shifts and tectonic movement. On this tour, you'll see them on the eastern coast of the Jungmun Tourist Complex, where they rise like a folding screen and create a spectacular sight when waves crash against them, sometimes rising over 20 meters high.

Is the driver guide English-speaking?
