Summary

Jeju’s volcanic cliffs, waterfalls and tea fields in one day

You’ll walk quiet wetlands high on Mt. Halla, feel sea spray at Jusangjeolli Cliffs, choose between tasting fresh tea or wandering ancient forest, then watch sunset from Jeju’s trendiest cafe street before seeing those iconic horse lighthouses by Ihotewu Beach. It’s a day that leaves you both tired and quietly happy—Jeju really does linger with you.

experience

What’s the experience like?

“Try the tangerine milk,” our guide Min said, handing me a carton at Korea’s highest convenience store—honestly, I didn’t expect to be sipping something sweet while clouds drifted across Hallasan right in front of me. The boardwalk through the 1100 Altitude Wetland was quiet except for the wind and this odd bird call that Min said only lives up here. My shoes got a bit wet from the mist but I barely noticed; it felt like we were walking through another world, way above the rest of Jeju.

The drive down to Jusangjeolli Cliff was full of switchbacks and sudden views—one minute pine trees, next minute open sea. Standing by those hexagonal basalt columns, you could hear waves slamming against rock so loud it almost drowned out everything else. There was a local couple taking wedding photos nearby; their laughter echoed off the stone and I thought about how old all this lava must be. Cheonjeyeon Waterfall came next, tucked into deep green forest. The air smelled like moss and rain even though it wasn’t raining. Min told us about the legend of seven nymphs—he pointed at carvings on Seonimgyo Bridge but honestly I was too busy just watching water spill over rocks in three layers.

After lunch (bibimbap—simple but good), we got to pick: O’Sulloc Tea Museum or Hwansangsup Forest. I went for tea because my feet were tired by then. Sat outside with a matcha roll cake and watched people wander between rows of bright green tea plants; there was this earthy smell everywhere that reminded me of summer after rain. Someone else in our group chose the forest walk and came back looking half-asleep from relaxation—they did the herbal foot bath thing too, which sounded tempting.

Aewol Cafe Street was busier than I expected but not in a bad way—just lots of people laughing over coffee with sea breeze blowing menus around. We found a spot upstairs overlooking the ocean right as the sun started to dip low; everything turned gold for maybe five minutes and then it was gone. Ihotewu Beach had these weirdly charming red and white horse lighthouses (I tried to pronounce “Ihotewu” right but Min laughed). There were street food stalls lighting up as we left—I kind of wish I’d stayed longer for snacks but my legs were done for the day.
