The experience

The tour starts with a drive to Woljeong-ri Beach in the eastern part of the island, where the sea turns emerald and the landscape draws photographers. You'll have time to walk the beach and use the cafes with sea-view seating before heading south along the coastal road. On the drive, you'll occasionally spot haenyeo at work in the water. The women divers who have harvested from Jeju's waters for generations. The route itself is part of the experience, not just transit between stops.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak is the centerpiece: a volcanic crater shaped like a crown when viewed from above, with 99 stone pillars forming its outer shell. It takes about 30 minutes to climb from the ticket office to the summit. On the way down, you naturally arrive at the haenyeo performance beach, where divers demonstrate their skill and breath-hold technique. The peak has been one of Jeju's ten scenic spots for centuries. If the weather turns heavy or rainy, performances cancel, but the left course to the performance beach stays open for free. Note that the site closes the first Monday of each month.

Seopjikoji comes next: a clifftop that became famous when Korean actors filmed a drama there. Walk from the parking lot to the white lighthouse built of volcanic rock, then climb it for views of the open sea and rape flower fields. On clear days you can see haenyeo working in the water below. The driver waits at the parking lot, so you walk one direction without backtracking. Seongeup Folk Village follows, where traditional thatched houses line stone-wall alleys and you can walk freely through the village to see how Jeju people have lived for centuries. The village is free to explore, and you can see a traditional toilet and experience wearing hanbok (Korean dress) if you choose.

The driver speaks English and has extensive foreign tour experience. Pickup happens at your Seogwipo hotel or accommodation, and you return to the same spot. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and all parking and fuel are covered. If you want to visit Jeongbang Waterfall, Sangumburi Crater, or Stone Culture Park instead of any of the standard stops, you can request changes when you book or during the day.
