The experience

The day starts with tea at the guide's family house, then a jeep carries you through Wadi Rum's most striking sites. You'll see the water hole used in Lawrence of Arabia, climb the big red sand dune and try sandboarding if you want, walk through Abu Kashaba Canyon scrambling over rocks, and stop at Um Frouth Arch: one of the desert's most beautiful rock formations. The jeep has comfortable benches and sunshades, and you'll have lunch in the desert at a scenic spot chosen by the guide.

As evening approaches, you watch the sunset either from a stop on the route or from the camp itself. At the Bedouin camp, you'll see how traditional food is prepared underground, then sit down to a large buffet dinner. Afterwards, the evening is yours to spend around the fire: listening to Bedouin music played on the oud, asking the guides about desert life and Bedouin culture, maybe dancing, or simply watching the stars in the silence of the desert. You sleep in a comfortable private tent.

Breakfast comes as a buffet in the morning, and the guide drives you back to the village afterward. Cold water is provided throughout the day, and the guide speaks English and Arabic.
