The experience
The jeep tour starts at 10:00 from Wadi Rum Village and runs until sunset, hitting ten named stops across the red and white desert. Lawrence Spring is a natural water source where camels gather and you can climb for views of Thamudic inscriptions carved into the rock. Khazali Canyon cuts between split mountains and holds traces of ancient caravan routes (merchants traveling from Egypt to Damascus, pilgrims heading to Mecca) with Thamudic, Nabatean and Islamic inscriptions still visible on the walls. Red Sand Dune is the most famous in the region. The sand is soft and difficult to walk on, which makes the climb challenging but the panoramic views from the top worth the effort. You also stop at Umm Fruth Rock Bridge, a 15-meter-high natural bridge where your guide can photograph you from below, and Little Bridge, which is lower and easier to climb, with a Bedouin tent at the base serving sweet tea.
At midday the guide prepares a traditional lunch cooked on fire at a viewpoint: warm meals with vegetables, bread, hummus, yogurt and local treats change daily. The afternoon includes a 30 to 45-minute walk through Abu Khashaba Canyon, a narrow valley with tall mountain walls and green vegetation that contrasts with the red sand. You pass Lawrence's House, where Nabateans laid foundations over 2,000 years ago as a caravan stop, and later venture into the White Desert further south, where the landscape shifts to white sand and fewer tourists mean more wildlife and flora to spot. The tour ends at a secluded sunset viewpoint where the guide prepares sweet Bedouin tea while you watch the sun drop over the panoramic landscape.
After sunset you move to the cave in a remote area with no tourists or lights around, where the guide prepares a traditional Bedouin dinner cooked outside on fire. The night is spent outside under the stars on a mattress with blankets: the isolation and lack of light pollution make it ideal for stargazing. You wake at the cave with a view of the Wadi Rum landscape and sunrise, eat traditional breakfast around 7:00 to 8:00, and are dropped back at Wadi Rum Village Rest House by 9:00.

Is this one for you?The tour involves moderate physical activity (climbing at several stops, a 30 to 45-minute canyon walk, and the soft sand of Red Dune makes ascent demanding), so you'll need a moderate fitness level. The overnight in a cave means sleeping outside on a mattress under open sky, which suits travelers comfortable with basic conditions and no walls around them.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Arabic.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (9 to 12 years); Child (6 to 8 years); Infant (under 6): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is Lawrence Spring and why do camels gather there?
Lawrence Spring is a natural water source with cool water running down the mountains into troughs, making it the camels' favorite hangout. Small trees and fluorescent green moss create a true oasis where you can relax as the Bedouins and their herds do, or climb the mountain to see inscriptions of Thamudic origin and spectacular views.
Can I see inscriptions and carvings in Khazali Canyon?
Khazali Canyon holds Thamudic, Nabatean and Islamic inscriptions, plus petroglyphs of humans, animals and soles of feet carved into the canyon walls. These traces mark the routes of ancient merchants traveling from Egypt to Damascus and pilgrims heading to Mecca.
What happens at the Red Sand Dune?
Red Sand Dune is the most famous sand dune in Wadi Rum, colored red by a high concentration of iron oxide. The sand is soft and difficult to walk on, making the climb challenging, but the top offers amazing panoramic views of the valley. The fastest way down is running or sandboarding.
How does the stargazing work at the cave overnight?
The cave is located in a remote area with no tourists or lights around, creating ideal conditions for stargazing. You sleep outside under the stars on a mattress with blankets, and the absence of light pollution means the night sky is fully visible.
What meals are included and how are they prepared?
Lunch and dinner are both cooked by your guide on an open fire. Traditional lunch includes warm meals with vegetables, bread, hummus, yogurt and local treats that vary daily. Traditional Bedouin dinner is prepared the same way at the cave. Breakfast the next morning is also included and served around 7:00 to 8:00 at the cave before you return to the village.
