The experience

The tour runs 8 hours in a 4x4 starting at the Wadi Rum Rest House, 7 km from the Visitor Center. Your guide leads you through hidden canyons and past weirdly shaped rock formations to reach the major sites: Khazali Canyon, where Thamudic and Nabataean petroglyphs cover the narrow siq's walls; Little Rock Bridge, an easy scramble with broad desert views; and Burdah Rock Bridge, the largest of Wadi Rum's three arches, perched 80 meters above the surrounding rock. You'll also see Mushroom Rock, carved by centuries of wind and rain into its distinctive shape, and walk through Abu Khashaba Canyon with its wild fig trees and red and yellow sand.

Sand-boarding on the Red Sand Dune (Al Hasany) is free and included. The fine, soft sand makes it walkable barefoot. Lunch is traditional Bedouin fare (gallaya, hummus, tuna, salad, Jordanian bread and juice) eaten in the desert. The tour times the sunset at Burdah Rock Bridge, one of the major draws of the day. If you choose the overnight option, you stay in a luxury Bedouin tent with a private bathroom, have dinner and breakfast included, and are driven back to the Rest House the next morning. A camel ride can be added for 20 JD per person.

The guide speaks English or Arabic. Bottled water comes with every tour. The itinerary suits all fitness levels, though reaching Burdah Bridge involves a steep hike to the summit and Little Rock Bridge requires a short scramble. Public transport options are available nearby if you need them.
