Your guide prepares lunch at the canyon end while you hike and sandboard.

A full-day jeep tour of Wadi Rum with a Bedouin guide covers eight major sites — Lawrence Spring, red sand dunes, Khazali Canyon, rock arches and canyons — with time to scramble, hike and photograph at each stop. The tour includes a traditional picnic lunch prepared in the desert, bottled water, tea and coffee; pickup and drop-off happen at Wadi Rum Rest House. Entry to the Wadi Rum Protected Area costs 7 JOD unless you hold a Jordan Pass. Optional camel rides (30, 60 or 120 minutes) and overnight stays in the family-run Bedouin camp are available for extra fees.

The Experience

The tour starts at the parking lot next to Wadi Rum Rest House and moves through the desert in a 4x4 with your guide. You'll stop at Lawrence Spring, where water collects from the mountains and camels drink from a basin, then climb the red sand dune for a 360-degree view across the valley. Bedouin tea waits at the top. From there the route enters Khazali Canyon to see ancient inscriptions carved into the rock face across different periods of history, and you'll scramble up the Small Arch before the guide drops you at the start of Abu Khashaba Canyon.

The canyon walk takes 30 to 45 minutes through narrow sections with views opening back across the desert. At the far end, your guide has prepared a traditional Bedouin lunch — stew, hummus, cheese and salad — while you rest and ask about life in the desert. After eating, sandboarding happens on the dunes before the drive to Um Frouth Rock Arch, where you climb to the top for photographs. Mushroom Rock and what locals call Lawrence' House (though nobody is certain he lived there) come next, with time to climb the rock behind it or drink more tea.

The tour finishes at Um Sabatah for the sunset, where Bedouin tea is served again before the drive back to Wadi Rum Rest House. If you want a camel ride instead of or in addition to the jeep sections, you can add 30, 60 or 120 minutes for 15, 20 or 35 JD. Staying overnight in the family-run Bedouin camp costs 15 JD extra per night and includes a dinner buffet, breakfast, and access to the communal tent with WiFi, unlimited tea and coffee, a charging station and a telescope.
