The experience
The boat leaves Positano and heads south along the Amalfi coast, passing the marine protected area of Punta Campanella where old defensive towers, hidden beaches and sea caves line the cliffs. Once in Capri waters, you pass Marina Grande and the Faraglioni rocks: four limestone formations that rise from the sea and frame the island's most photographed view. The route is flexible: you can visit the Blue Grotto on request (conditions permitting, entry is paid separately), where the sandy bottom reflects light to create the signature blue color, or skip it and move straight to the Green Grotto, where emerald water and stalactites make it one of the best spots for swimming and snorkeling.
After the grottoes, the boat stops at Punta Carena lighthouse (the second most powerful in Italy, first lit in 1867), then heads to Marina Piccola, the island's most exclusive waterfront. You have three hours here: time to eat lunch at a typical restaurant overlooking the water and explore Capri's inland streets and shops. On the return journey, you pass the White Grotto with its white limestone walls and crystal-clear water, then stop at Tordigliano, a quiet beach known for water clarity, where you can swim and snorkel before heading back to port with a glass of cold prosecco.
The boat is a traditional gozzo (a wooden fishing boat), newly built in 2023 or 2025, 26 feet long, with a canopy for shade on the aft deck and a separate toilet. Prosecco, beer, limoncello, Aperol Spritz, cola, lemon soda, mineral water and dry snacks are included. This is a private tour: only your group travels on the boat.

Operated by Positano Boat Tour
Is this one for you?The full eight hours means you leave Positano early and return by evening, which rules out other activities that day but gives you the whole arc of Capri's coast and three hours to wander the island. If you want to combine Capri with time in Positano or Amalfi the same day, a shorter boat tour would fit better.
