Seven hours on the water and ashore: Blue Grotto, four named rock formations, five hidden caves, and a free afternoon in town

A full-day boat tour of Capri that circles the island to visit the Blue Grotto, Faraglioni rock formations, and five coastal caves (the White, Red, Green, Saints and Sailors' caves) with snorkeling stops and a break for aperitif and prosecco. You get 4 hours ashore at Porto Turistico to shop, eat or reach the island's interior by funicular, then return to the boat. Pickup and drop-off happen at your private dock or pier; the guide speaks English or Italian; the group stays under 12 people. Bad weather may shift the route or require rescheduling.

The experience

If you're arriving in Capri by ferry or staying without a car, this tour solves the logistics: a boat picks you up at your dock, circles the island's entire coastline, and lands you back where you started. The route is built around the Blue Grotto (the one sight most visitors come for), but it does not stop there. The boat passes the Faraglioni, the four stacked rock formations that define Capri's silhouette, and enters five separate sea caves, each one named for its geology or history: the White Grotto with limestone walls, the Red Grotto lit by warm rock, the Green Grotto (formerly the Cave of the Turks) with emerald-tinted water, the Saints Grotto with stalactite shapes, and the Sailors' Cave, a refuge for fishermen centuries ago. You swim and snorkel at two stops, with fins and masks provided.

Halfway through, the boat anchors near Punta Ventroso for a break on deck: an aperitif with snacks, prosecco, limoncello and beer, with the option to wade ashore to a pebble beach a few meters away. The second half circles back past the Bagni di Tiberio, where Roman emperors bathed, and the Punta Carena lighthouse, the second most powerful in Italy and one of the oldest, lit since 1867. By mid-afternoon you reach Porto Turistico, where you disembark for approximately 4 hours. From there, a funicular takes you uphill to the town center in minutes, or you can walk to the Blue Grotto entrance by land if you want a second look. A printed guide on board helps you choose where to go. You return to the boat for the ride back to your starting pier.

The boat has a bathroom, changing cabins, a hot shower and sun shade. Towels are provided. The group maxes out at 12 people. The total time is 7 to 8 hours, including travel. Drinks (water, soda, beer, prosecco, limoncello and spritz) are included throughout the day, and brunch with local food specialties is served on board. The guide is live and speaks English or Italian. If weather forces a change, the operator will offer a different date or a full refund.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English and Italian.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24h before the start.

Can I visit the Blue Grotto on this tour, or do I need to buy a separate ticket?

The Blue Grotto is a main stop on the boat route, and you'll enter it by water as part of the tour. The boat provides access. You do not buy a separate grotto ticket. The operator notes that entry may depend on sea conditions and daylight hours.

What happens during the 4 hours I spend on the island?

You disembark at Porto Turistico and can spend the time however you choose. Most visitors take the funicular up to the town center to shop, eat at restaurants, or walk the streets. Others use the time to reach the Blue Grotto by land and explore it from the shore side. A printed guide on board suggests routes and attractions.

Is snorkeling included, or do I need to bring my own gear?

Snorkeling is included. The tour provides masks and fins at no extra cost. You'll have two dedicated swimming and snorkeling stops during the boat's circuit of the island.

How does pickup work if I'm staying in a hotel or arriving by ferry?

Pickup and drop-off happen at your private dock or pier, not at a central meeting point. When you book, you'll specify where you're staying or arriving, and the boat will collect you there and return you to the same spot at the end of the day.

What's included in the brunch and aperitif?

The aperitif, served mid-tour at Punta Ventroso, includes snacks, prosecco, limoncello and beer. Brunch with local food specialties is served on board. Water and soda are available throughout the day. No hidden costs or extras are charged on site.

What are the Faraglioni, and will I see them up close?

The Faraglioni are four massive rock formations rising from the sea just offshore: Saetta (attached to the island), Monacone, Stella and Scopolo. The boat pauses near them so you can photograph and film them. They're the most recognizable landmark in Capri and have inspired artists and legends for centuries.
