The experience
The boat leaves from either Positano or Praiano and follows the coast at a pace the skipper adjusts for you. You'll pass Praiano, the Fiord of Furore and Conca dei Marini, stopping at attractive bays where you can swim and explore inlets and grottos that are only reachable by water. Some grottos open up enough to swim inside. The Emerald Grotto is the most famous, though entry there costs extra and is optional. The skipper knows which stops suit the day's conditions and your mood.
Homemade limoncello, prosecco, soft drinks and snacks arrive on board throughout the day. You get diving masks and beach towels. If you want lunch, the skipper can take you to seaside restaurants along the coast that are only accessible by boat. You eat ashore and return when you're ready. If you'd rather skip it, you simply relax and swim. The route continues toward Atrani, Minori and Maiori, with time to float in the water and take in an aperitif as the afternoon winds down.
The tour runs seven hours total. You choose whether to depart from Positano or Praiano at checkout, and the skipper speaks English and Italian. Because the itinerary is flexible, the day shapes itself around what you want to see and how long you want to linger at each stop.
