The experience
The safari departs between 2 and 3 pm from Hotel Pol Haveli or your hotel in Jaisalmer, with a one-hour jeep drive to the campsite. Once you arrive, you mount your own camel for a two-hour ride across the sand dunes, timed to reach them as the sun drops. The guides are experienced handlers who have been running these safaris since 2000, and they speak English throughout the trip.
Dinner happens over the campfire, and you're welcome to learn the local cooking techniques from the guides as they prepare the meal. This is not a demonstration you watch, but skills you pick up by doing. After eating, you sleep on a clean bed beneath the open sky. The next morning brings sunrise, breakfast cooked the same way, and then the jeep ride back to Jaisalmer by mid-morning.
Private transportation is included, along with bottled water, snacks, and access to shower facilities and luggage storage before and after the trip. The campsite sits in isolated desert terrain where you'll encounter native wildlife and visit remote villages. The Longewala War Memorial is also accessible during the safari.
