The experience

The day starts with a team briefing at the assembly point, then a jeep takes you to two historical stops before the desert camp: Kuldhara, a village established in the 1300s and abandoned two centuries later, and Khaba Fort, perched on a hill overlooking the landscape. From there an exciting jeep ride brings you to the camp where the camel safari begins. You'll ride one camel for two hours as the light shifts across the dunes: the best time to watch wildlife move across the sand and to photograph the sky turning orange, pink and deep red. As darkness falls, the stars emerge without light pollution to dim them.

Back at the camp, tea and snacks arrive as the culture show starts. Local musicians and dancers perform traditional Rajasthani folk music and dance, and you're invited to join in. A bonfire burns throughout the evening so the air stays warm. The buffet dinner features local dishes made from fresh ingredients, and a fully stocked bar is available. Your driver returns you to Jaisalmer by 10 pm at the latest.
