You're picked up from your Jaisalmer hotel and driven to the camel safari point, where you ride into the Thar Desert toward Kuldhara Village, an abandoned settlement with a layered history. After exploring the ruins, you return to the dunes for a wood-fire dinner cooked by your camel driver, then sleep under stars on provided mattresses and blankets before returning with breakfast the next morning.

The Experience

You swing up onto the camel outside Jaisalmer — the driver steadies you, checks the saddle, and then you're moving. The rhythm is slower than you expect, almost hypnotic, and the dunes roll out in front of you in waves of sand that shift color as the light changes. The camel safari takes you toward Kuldhara Village first, the abandoned settlement that sits like a held breath in the desert. Your guide walks you through what happened there — the story of why people left, why the village went quiet — and the place feels different once you know it. Not spooky exactly, but heavy with time.

By late afternoon you're back on the camel, heading deeper into the dunes where the driver has already set up. He's built a wood fire — he cooks too, which matters because dinner comes next, cooked right there in front of you. You eat sitting on the sand, and then the sun drops fast, the way it does in the desert, and the sky empties of color. After dark the stars come out in a way they don't anywhere else. Not a metaphor — there are so many of them that the sky looks crowded. The driver spreads out mattresses and blankets, and you're sleeping under all of it, the Milky Way running across your vision.

Breakfast happens in the morning before the ride back to Jaisalmer.
