If you want to see real Rajasthan village life, ride camels through golden dunes, visit mysterious Kuldhara Village, and sleep under more stars than you thought possible—this tour’s for you.
The first thing that hit me was the dry, earthy smell as we left Jaisalmer behind—windows down, sand swirling in the air. Our guide, Raju, met us at the edge of the dunes with a grin and two camels already waiting. Climbing up felt wobbly at first, but after a few minutes you get into the rhythm. The camels moved slow and steady past tiny mud houses where kids waved and goats wandered right across our path. You’ll hear nothing but camel bells and the crunch of hooves on sand.
We stopped at Kuldhara Village just as the sun started dipping low. The place is silent—almost too quiet—and our guide shared stories about why everyone left overnight two centuries ago. There’s something eerie about wandering those empty stone lanes with only your footsteps for company. Afterward, we headed deeper into the dunes. By dusk, Raju had a fire going—he cooked dal and chapati right there while we watched the sky turn purple. Blankets and thick mattresses were spread out for us to sleep under a sky packed with stars (I lost count after fifty). It gets chilly fast after dark, so bring a sweater if you feel the cold.
The ride is gentle and guides help everyone on and off the camels. Most ages can join, but it’s best to check if anyone has back issues or is pregnant.
Bring a warm layer for night (it gets cold), plus your essentials. Mattresses and blankets are provided—no need to carry extra bedding.
Dinner and breakfast are included—usually simple local dishes like dal, chapati, rice. Guides cook fresh over a wood fire in the dunes.
Camel mounting needs some flexibility; guides assist as much as possible. Let us know your needs before booking so we can advise honestly.
You’ll get pickup from anywhere in or around Jaisalmer, all camel rides, dinner cooked on an open fire in the dunes, breakfast in the morning, plus thick mattresses and plenty of blankets for sleeping under the stars.
