A 2-day camel safari in Jaisalmer takes you into the Thar Desert with an English-speaking guide, two villages to explore, one hour of camel riding each day, and a night sleeping under open sky. The experience

The safari starts from the meeting point and moves through two villages, including Kuldhara, an abandoned settlement from the 13th century left mysteriously empty in the early 1800s. You'll also visit Jiyai, a natural lake in the middle of the desert where you can photograph the landscape and rest. From there you reach the camel point, where you ride for one hour as the sun drops toward the horizon. Evening tea, coffee and snacks arrive (vegetable pakoda and chai) followed by a bonfire and a dinner your team prepares. You sleep in the middle of the Thar Desert on blankets and pillows under the stars.

The second day begins with sunrise and breakfast before another hour of camel riding back toward the hotel. The whole route is built around what you want: half-day, full-day or multi-day options exist, so you're not locked into a standard itinerary. Your guide speaks English and handles the logistics (pickup, the villages, the camel point, the meals), so you move through the desert without arranging the pieces yourself.

Kuldhara is a 13th-century village in the Jaisalmer district that was once prosperous and inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins. It was abandoned by the early 1800s for reasons that remain unclear: possibly dwindling water, an earthquake, or according to local legend, atrocities by a minister of the Jaisalmer State. The ruins stand as they were left.

How much camel riding is included in the 2-day safari?

You ride for one hour on the first day as the sun sets, and another hour on the second morning before returning to the hotel. The camel carries your gear, and your guide leads the route through the desert terrain.
