The experience

The tour starts at 7:30 AM with a 55-kilometer jeep drive from Hotel Renuka to the campsite, passing through Khaba Fort where you explore the ruins of an abandoned village and its artifacts. The landscape shifts as you approach the desert proper. This is the setup for what comes next.

Once at the camp, a three-hour camel trek takes you through small villages and across the sand dunes. You'll ride again in the late afternoon, moving deeper into the isolated dunes before sunset. Dinner is prepared over a campfire at the campsite, and you sleep on a proper bed roll beneath the stars, with clean blankets provided. There are no built facilities on-site. Toilets require going behind the bushes, which is part of the trade-off of sleeping in open desert.

Day two begins after sunrise and breakfast with more camel riding and galloping along the dunes. A jeep picks you up at 11 AM and drives you back to Jaisalmer, arriving around noon. Your guide speaks English throughout, and children from age four are welcome on the tour.
