The experience
The tour opens with Kuldhara Village, a 17th-century settlement abandoned after the Paliwal Brahmin community left under historical hardship. From there, a private jeep carries you to the sand dunes for a two-hour camel ride into sunset. That evening, you cook vegetarian dinner at camp and sleep under the stars: the first of two nights. The next morning brings another camel ride through soft dunes as the cool breeze rises, followed by a guided walk through a traditional desert village where you meet local families in their mud houses, learn their daily routines and handicrafts, and share a home-cooked Rajasthani lunch prepared by a local family using fresh regional ingredients. The second night lands in a luxury Swiss tent, where comfort returns without leaving the desert. On the final morning, a buffet breakfast precedes either one last camel ride or a short walk to nearby dunes before the driver returns you to Jaisalmer by 10 am.
The route also takes in Jaseri Lake, described as an oasis in the middle of the desert, and Khaba Fort, a 13th-century structure set in what was once a populated Paliwal Brahmin village. Private transportation means the pace stays yours. The guide speaks English and leads the cultural exchanges and the meals. Bottled water and snacks travel with you throughout.

What is Kuldhara Village and why was it abandoned?
Kuldhara is a 17th-century village built by Paliwal Brahmins that was abandoned after the community faced taxation and hardship imposed by a historical ruler. What kind of accommodation do I get on each night?
The first night is wild camping under the stars at the sand dunes camp. The second night is in a luxury Swiss tent at the main camp, which offers comfort while keeping you in the desert setting. Both nights include the camp experience. The Swiss tent provides beds and shelter.
