The experience
The safari departs Jaisalmer around 2:30 PM by jeep, stopping at a natural oasis and Khabha MT Fort on the way to the dunes. Once you reach the sand, you mount a camel for a 45-minute ride into the desert, arriving in time to watch the sunset from the dunes. A guide prepares a traditional vegetarian dinner around a wood fire, and afterward you sleep on the dunes under the open sky with warm bedding and a mattress beneath you.
Morning comes with tea and coffee, followed by breakfast and a second camel ride lasting about 30 minutes. A jeep then carries you back to Jaisalmer, arriving by 10 AM. The overnight accommodation is on the dunes themselves (no tent, just blankets and mattress on the sand), so you experience the desert's quiet and the night sky directly. Camel guys provide entertainment and help throughout, and a guide leads both rides and the camp setup.

Is this one for you?Book this 2-day safari if you want to sleep on the dunes themselves under the open sky rather than in a tent or a fixed camp structure. The overnight on the sand with stars directly overhead is what sets this version apart from shorter day trips or camps with enclosed shelter.
