The experience
Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, sits carved into rose-red cliffs in southern Jordan. The route from Amman takes three hours by modern air-conditioned vehicle. Once there, you walk through the Siq (a narrow gorge flanked by towering sandstone walls), and emerge at the Treasury, the site's most recognizable monument. The carved façade dominates the valley floor, and the scale of the ancient architecture becomes clear only when you stand in front of it. You spend three hours exploring Petra's carved structures and pathways on foot.
After Petra, the tour moves to Wadi Rum, a desert landscape of red sand and rock formations. A two-hour Jeep 4x4 safari takes you deeper into the terrain, where you can meet local Bedouin people and hear about their traditional way of life in the desert. The day ends with a sunset over the sandscape before the drive back to your hotel in Amman or the Dead Sea, a journey of about three hours.
The tour runs 12 to 14 hours total and includes hotel pickup, an air-conditioned vehicle with WiFi on board, bottled water, and an English-speaking driver. You choose between a private tour, just your group, or a group departure with other travelers. Entrance fees to Petra and Wadi Rum are separate and added at checkout if you want them included.
