This tour strings them together over two days: three hours south from Amman to Petra, then deeper into the desert to Wadi Rum, then back north to the Dead Sea. Day one is built around Petra, the rose-red city carved into stone cliffs more than 2,000 years ago. You walk the Siq, a narrow gorge that opens onto the Khazneh, the carved facade that dominates the entrance, then explore other monuments like the Monastery and the Altar of Sacrifice. In the afternoon you drive toward Wadi Rum, the valley of moon where Lawrence of Arabia and The Martian were filmed. You spend the night in a private tent at a Bedouin camp with its own bathroom and air conditioning, and dinner is cooked in the Bedouin style. The evening is yours to sit with the quiet of the desert.
Day two starts with a short 4x4 Jeep tour through Wadi Rum's towering cliffs and rosy red sand, then you head north to the Dead Sea. The water sits 1,300 feet below sea level and holds so much salt and minerals that you float without effort. The resort entrance gives you access to pools, beach, changing rooms and showers. You have free time to swim before the drive back to Amman. The whole route is suitable for all fitness levels, though the walking at Petra is self-paced and you choose how much ground to cover.
