The experience
How do you fit three of Jordan's most famous sites into one trip without renting a car or navigating alone? This 2-day tour leaves Amman heading south 139 miles to Petra, the rock-cut city built over 2,000 years ago to control ancient trade routes. You walk the narrow siq (the main entrance carved into the stone), and emerge at the Khazneh, a monument the Nabateans carved as a tomb. The itinerary also takes in the Monastery and the Altar of Sacrifice, both carved into the same red cliffs. An English-speaking driver handles all the driving in a climate-controlled vehicle, so you focus on the ruins themselves.
In the afternoon you move toward Wadi Rum, the valley where Lawrence of Arabia and The Martian were filmed. The landscape is massive: towering cliffs in shades of brown, red and gold rising from rosy sand. You spend the night in a Bedouin camp inside the Wadi Rum Protected Area, where dinner is cooked in the traditional Bedouin style and the evening includes cultural activities. The camp offers a private bathroom and air conditioning, and breakfast is included the next morning.
Day two starts with a 2-hour 4x4 Jeep tour through Wadi Rum to see the desert formations up close, then you head to the Dead Sea. At 1,300 feet below sea level, it's one of the lowest points on Earth and known for its extreme salt and mineral concentration, so high that fish cannot survive in it. You get entry to a private beach and free time to swim. The water's density makes floating effortless, and the minerals are said to have therapeutic properties. After your time in the water, the driver returns you to your hotel in Amman.

Top questions
What exactly is the Khazneh at Petra?
The Khazneh is a large monument carved directly into the red stone cliff face at Petra's entrance. The Nabateans carved it over 2,000 years ago, and it was believed to be a tomb for one of their kings. It's the first major structure you see when you walk through the siq, the narrow stone pathway that leads into the city.
Do I need to book entrance fees to Petra in advance, or can I add them at checkout?
Entrance fees to Petra are optional and can be added to your booking at checkout. A private guide at Petra is also optional if you want more detailed commentary at the site itself.
What happens during the night in Wadi Rum?
You stay overnight in a Bedouin camp inside the Wadi Rum Protected Area. Dinner is prepared in traditional Bedouin style, and the evening includes cultural activities. The camp has private bathrooms and air conditioning, and breakfast is served the next morning before your 4x4 Jeep tour.
Can I actually swim in the Dead Sea, or is it too salty?
You can swim in the Dead Sea. The extreme salt and mineral concentration makes your body float naturally without effort, creating a unique swimming experience. You have free time to enter the water at the private beach included with your tour.
How far is Petra from Amman, and how long is the drive?
Petra is 139 miles south of Amman. The drive takes several hours, but your English-speaking driver handles all the navigation and transport in a climate-controlled vehicle, so you can rest or take in the landscape along the way.
