The experience

The tour leaves Amman heading south in an air-conditioned vehicle with a professional English-speaking driver, arriving at Petra after three hours. You walk down the Siq (a long, winding sandstone canyon), and emerge at the Treasury, the carved facade that anchors the lost Nabataean city. From there you explore the Street of Facades, the Roman Theater and the Royal Tombs at your own pace before departing for Wadi Rum in the afternoon.

Wadi Rum is Jordan's largest desert, a UNESCO World Heritage Site shaped by wind and time into towering rock formations. You arrive at a camp set in the middle of the desert and eat a traditional dinner before spending the night. The next morning, local Bedouins drive you through the highlights in off-road vehicles for two to three hours, covering terrain and sites that shift with the light.

The drive to the Dead Sea takes four hours north from Wadi Rum. Once there, you spend three to four hours at one of the tourist beaches. The Dead Sea's water is so saturated with salt that your body floats without effort. The mineral-rich mud along the shore is believed to have therapeutic benefits. After time in the water and sun, you transfer back to Amman.
