The experience
Jerash arrives on Day 1 after you explore Amman's Citadel and Roman Theater. The ancient city spreads across a hillside north of the capital, its Temple of Artemis and colonnaded streets intact enough to picture the Nabatean traders and Roman soldiers who moved through them. You return to Amman for the night.
Day 2 shifts toward the spiritual sites. A driver picks you up from your hotel and takes you to Madaba, one of the world's oldest Christian cities, where a famous mosaic map marks centuries of pilgrimage routes. Mount Nebo rises next (a 300-meter climb to a Christian shrine overlooking the Jordan Valley) followed by the Baptism site at Yardenit, where the Jordan River narrows between banks. The day ends at the Dead Sea, where the water's salt content holds you afloat without effort. Overnight stays vary by option: a 5-star resort on the shore, or a 3-star hotel in Amman.
Petra consumes the morning of Day 3. The narrow canyon called Al Siq opens into a valley where tombs and temples rise from rose-colored sandstone cliffs. The Treasury, a 45-meter facade carved into the rock face, is the landmark most photographs capture, but the site sprawls far beyond it. By afternoon you're heading south to Wadi Rum, where you sleep in a deluxe tent with a private bathroom and air conditioning at a Bedouin camp.
Day 4 begins with a two-hour jeep tour through Wadi Rum's otherworldly desert landscape (the minimum recommended way to see it) before the route turns toward the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea coast. You have the afternoon to swim and float at the Dead Sea one more time, then return to your hotel in Amman or head to the airport.

Top questions
What is the Roman Theater of Amman like, and can you walk inside it?
The Roman Theater of Amman is a remarkably well-preserved amphitheater built into a hillside in the city center. You descend into the structure itself, where the stone seating and acoustics still stand from antiquity, giving a sense of the performances and gatherings that took place there.
How much time do you actually spend exploring Petra?
Petra occupies the morning of Day 3. The site is vast (the Treasury is the most famous structure, but tombs and temples extend throughout the canyon system), so the time allows you to see the main attractions without rushing, though Petra could easily fill a full day if you wanted to hike deeper into the site.
What happens during the Wadi Rum jeep tour on Day 4?
The jeep tour runs for two hours in the early morning, when the desert light is strongest. You travel in a vehicle with Bedouin drivers across the otherworldly landscape of rock formations, sand dunes and open desert, experiencing the terrain from ground level rather than from a distance.
Can you swim at the Dead Sea, and how does the buoyancy actually feel?
Yes, the Dead Sea's extraordinary salt content makes you float on the surface without effort. You cannot sink. The afternoon on Day 4 is reserved for swimming and sunbathing, so you have time to experience the sensation and relax in the lowest point on Earth.
What are the accommodation options across the four nights?
Overnight stays depend on which option you select at checkout. Choices include a 3-star hotel in Amman (Day 1), a 5-star resort at the Dead Sea (Day 2), a deluxe tent with private bathroom and air conditioning at a Wadi Rum Bedouin camp (Day 3), and return to Amman or the airport on Day 4. Some options bundle accommodations. Others include transportation only.
