The experience
The tour starts with Mount Nebo, where the view across the Jordan River valley reaches toward Jericho and Jerusalem on clear days. From there you move through Madaba to see the sixth-century mosaic map of the Holy Land in the Church of Saint George, then climb to Shobak Castle, built in 1115 on a remote desert ridge. The castle holds churches, a secret passageway to a spring, a watchtower and catacombs carved into the stone. Little Petra, a smaller Nabataean site with three open areas connected by a 450-metre canyon, comes next before you reach your hotel in Petra for the night.
Day two is built around Petra itself. You walk the Siq, a 1.2-kilometre gorge that opens onto the carved facade of the Treasury, then spend hours moving through the ancient city's streets, temples and tombs. The site is famous for its rose-red sandstone and the water conduit system that fed the Nabataean city. That evening you transfer to a traditional Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum, where you stay overnight surrounded by towering sandstone mountains and vast desert.
The final day starts with a jeep safari through Wadi Rum's rugged terrain and hidden valleys. Afterward you drive through the Great Rift Valley to the Dead Sea, where the mineral-rich water lets you float without effort and the mud is thick enough to coat your skin. You return to Amman the same afternoon.

Top questions
What is the Siq at Petra and how long does it take to walk through?
The Siq is a 1.2-kilometre gorge carved into sandstone that forms the main entrance to Petra. It leads directly to the Treasury, the site's most famous carved facade, and is the passage most visitors walk on day two of the tour.
Do I sleep in hotels or camps, and where?
You have two nights in 3-star hotels: one in Petra city on night one and one in Wadi Rum on night two. The Wadi Rum accommodation is a traditional Bedouin camp, not a standard hotel.
What happens on the jeep safari in Wadi Rum?
The jeep safari takes you through the Wadi Rum Valley to explore the rugged terrain, discover hidden sites and see the towering sandstone mountains and open wilderness that surround the valley.
Can I float in the Dead Sea, and what is the water like?
Yes. The Dead Sea's mineral-rich, buoyant water lets you float effortlessly without swimming. The tour includes time to float and to apply the mineral-rich mud to your skin before rinsing off.
What is Little Petra and how does it differ from Petra?
Little Petra, also called Siq al-Barid, is a smaller Nabataean archaeological site north of Petra consisting of three open areas connected by a 450-metre canyon with carved sandstone buildings. It is usually less crowded than Petra and is free to enter, though it is part of the same UNESCO World Heritage Site.
