The experience
The tour leaves Amman or Queen Alia Airport in an air-conditioned vehicle with a professional English-speaking driver. The three-hour drive south takes you to Petra, where you enter the Siq (a long, winding sandstone canyon), and emerge at the Treasury, the most iconic structure of the lost Nabataean capital. From there you explore the Street of Facades, the Roman Theater and the Royal Tombs at your own pace with your guide. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
After Petra, you drive to Wadi Rum, Jordan's largest desert and a UNESCO site famous for its otherworldly rock formations and Bedouin culture. You arrive at a camp set in the middle of the desert, where dinner is served and you stay overnight. The next morning, a 2–3 hour tour in local off-road vehicles operated by Bedouins covers the desert's highlights before the four-hour drive north to the Dead Sea.
The Dead Sea, at 408 meters below sea level, is the lowest point on earth. Its high salinity lets you float without effort, and the mineral-rich mud along the shore is believed to have therapeutic benefits. You spend 3–4 hours at a resort beach enjoying the sun and the water before the return drive to Amman. Breakfast is included on day two. Dinner is included on day one.
