Within minutes you're moving through the Siq — that narrow canyon carved into rose-red stone — and the light is hitting the walls in a way the photos never quite captured. The Treasury appears at the end of it like a sudden answer to a question you didn't know you were asking. This is how the 3-hour Petra tour starts: not with a lecture, but with arrival.

The walk covers about 6 kilometers across the main trail, moving at whatever pace works for you. After the Treasury, you climb up to a vantage point overlooking the theater — the kind of spot where you can actually see the scale of what's carved into the mountain. Then come the Royal Tombs, the Colonnaded Street, and Qasr Al-Bint, each one a different angle on how the Nabataeans built a city inside stone. Your guide knows which stops give you the best light for photos and where the crowds thin out. The whole thing takes between 2.5 and 3 hours depending on how you move, and you're not rushing.

At the end of the tour, you have a choice: walk back to the Visitor Center (about 1 to 1.5 hours on the main trail), or pay 25 JOD per person for a golf cart ride down. The Monastery is not included in the standard itinerary, but if you want to add it — that's 850 steps up — your guide can work it in and adjust the timing.
