The experience
You meet at the Petra visitor center and ride horses through the Al Siq canyon: the narrow passage that opens onto the Treasury, the most photographed site in Petra. From there, the route stays on horseback past the Royal Tombs, the High Place of Sacrifice built atop Jebel Madbah, the Theatre carved into the mountainside, the Colonnaded Street, Qasr Al Bint, the Great Temple and Petra Church. The horses handle the terrain between sites so you see them all without the long walks that make a standard Petra day exhausting.
The route continues toward Mount Haroun and the Prophet Haroun tomb, though the final stretch to the tomb itself is difficult terrain for horses and may not be fully reached depending on conditions. You return the same way and finish at the visitor center around sunset. The certified horses are accustomed to the route, and the guide leads the full day in English.
Lunch and bottled water are included. The ride requires at least moderate fitness and is not suitable for pregnant travelers or those with spinal injuries or cardiovascular concerns. The visitor center is accessible by public transport.
