You meet Bedouin herders and share tea in the mountains between rides.

Horseback riding around Petra is a 3-hour guided activity where you saddle an Arabian horse and ride through the backcountry from Kharoubat Al Fajjah to Siq Al Barid, a Neolithic village, with hotel pickup from Wadi Musa, a light lunch stop in the mountains, and time to meet local Bedouin and drink tea. The guide speaks English and children from age 10 are welcome. Transportation to and from the riding site is included.

The experience

Your guide meets you at your hotel or camp in Wadi Musa and drives you to Little Petra, where the Arabian horses are waiting. The ride itself covers three hours of backcountry terrain, moving from the Kharoubat Al Fajjah area through old houses and mountain landscapes to Siq Ghrab and the Neolithic village of Siq Al Barid. You are not following a paved loop or a tourist corridor: the route traces ancient trails that wind through the region the way they have for centuries.

Midway through the ride, you stop for a light lunch in the mountains. After eating, you meet with local Bedouin herders, share tea with them, and then ride out again as the sun begins to drop. The guide handles the logistics and speaks English throughout, so you can focus on the horse, the landscape and the people you encounter. Once the ride ends, the same driver takes you back to your hotel or camp in Wadi Musa.
