Full day tour to Petra and Little Petra

  • Depart from hotel in Amman
  • Drive 3 hours to Petra
  • Get tickets at visitor centre
  • Enter Petra and explore sites
  • Visit Little Petra caves and houses
  • Drive 3 hours back to Amman

The experience

The driver picks you up from your Amman hotel and handles the three-hour drive to Petra. Once you arrive at the visitor center, the driver helps you purchase your entry ticket (available as an add-on when you book, or arrange it separately). You then enter the Siq: the narrow canyon passage that opens onto the Treasury, Petra's most photographed monument carved into rose-colored stone. Four hours is enough time to walk through the Roman amphitheater, the altar, and the court, with room to take pictures and move at your own pace.

After Petra, you head to Little Petra, a smaller archaeological site where you explore caves and ancient houses that show how the Nabataeans lived. The contrast between the two sites gives you a fuller picture of the civilization that built these monuments. Then it's the three-hour drive back to your hotel in Amman.

The vehicle is modern and air-conditioned throughout the journey. Bottled water and WiFi are provided on board. Because this is a private tour, there's no waiting for other travelers or following a group schedule: the driver works around your pace and interests at each stop.

Is this one for you?Choose this tour if you want a private vehicle and driver for the full day rather than joining a group. You set the pace at each site and avoid the schedule constraints of a shared departure. The nine to eleven hour commitment covers both Petra and Little Petra in one trip, so you see two distinct Nabataean settlements without splitting the journey across separate days.

Top questions

How long is the drive from Amman to Petra?

The drive takes three hours each way. You leave your hotel in Amman and arrive at Petra's visitor center in the morning, then spend four hours at the site before traveling to Little Petra and returning to Amman in the afternoon.

What is the Siq and what will I see there?

The Siq is the entrance to ancient Petra: a narrow canyon passage that leads to the Treasury, the site's most iconic monument. It's carved directly into the rose-colored rock face, and the walk through it opens onto a view of the Treasury at the far end.

What's the difference between Petra and Little Petra?

Petra is the larger, more famous site with monumental carved facades, a Roman amphitheater, altars and courtyards spread across the valley. Little Petra is a smaller archaeological site nearby where you can see caves and dwellings that illustrate how the Nabataeans actually lived day to day.

Are entry tickets included in the tour price?

Entry tickets are optional. You can add them when you book under the "Transportation & Entry Tickets" option, or you can choose "Transportation only" and purchase tickets separately at the visitor center.

Is lunch provided during the tour?

Lunch is not included. You'll have time to eat at Petra or Little Petra, and the driver can recommend local restaurants, but you arrange and pay for your own meal.
