The experience
You meet your guide at the Petra Visitor Center, where they help with entry tickets or Jordan Pass exchange before you enter the UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there, the walk begins through the Siq: a natural corridor stretching over 1.2 kilometers between sandstone cliffs that rise 80 meters high. The narrow gorge winds past Nabataean carvings and ancient water channels, building anticipation with every step until you emerge to see the Treasury, Petra's most iconic monument, carved nearly 40 meters high into rose-red stone.
The tour moves through the Street of Facades, where monumental tombs blend Assyrian, Egyptian, and Hellenistic styles carved directly into the cliffs, then to the Roman Theater: hewn from the mountain itself rather than built from blocks, with capacity for 4,000 spectators. You'll climb to the Royal Tombs on the eastern cliffs, where the Urn Tomb, Silk Tomb, Corinthian Tomb, and Palace Tomb display the richly colored sandstone in reds, oranges, and purples. The Colonnaded Street, lined with columns from the 1st century AD, shows where traders and citizens once gathered, and the tour includes Qasr al-Bint, a religious temple facing the Wadi Musa.
Because it's private, you move at your own speed and linger where you choose. The guide adjusts the route based on what interests you most and your fitness level, so you're not locked into a fixed schedule or a group's pace. Food and drinks are not included, so plan accordingly if you want to bring water or snacks for the walk.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Arabic.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly is the Siq and why does everyone talk about it?
The Siq is a natural gorge over 1.2 kilometers long with sandstone cliffs rising 80 meters on both sides, carved with Nabataean details and ancient water channels. It's the grand entrance to Petra, and walking through it leads directly to the Treasury: the moment most visitors remember most vividly.
Is the Treasury really a tomb, or was it built for something else?
The Treasury, called Al-Khazneh in Arabic, was once believed to hold hidden treasure, but scholars now think it was most likely a royal tomb. Its 40-meter-high façade is carved with Hellenistic columns, statues, and intricate details that show Nabataean skill and artistic vision, though its exact purpose remains debated.
How much walking and climbing is involved in 3 hours?
The tour covers Petra's main highlights on foot, including a climb to the Royal Tombs on the eastern cliffs, but the guide adjusts the route and pace to your fitness level. You're not rushed, and the itinerary can be customized based on how much walking you want to do.
Does the tour include lunch or drinks?
Food and drinks are not included in the tour, so bring water and snacks if you plan to eat during the 3 hours. The Visitor Center has facilities if you need them before or after.
