The Blue Grotto entrance requires a rowboat, not a tour bus. You sit low in a small wooden boat to slip through the cave mouth.

A full-day tour of Capri starting at Marina Grande port with private minibus transport, rowing boat entry to the Blue Grotto, time in the village of Anacapri, and a walk through Capri town to Augustus Garden with views of the island's famous rock stacks. A live guide speaks English, Spanish or Italian. The Blue Grotto's opening depends on weather and sea conditions, and a boat tour replaces it if the cave is closed.

The experience

The tour picks you up at the Port of Capri at 10:30 and loads you into a private minibus that heads straight to the Blue Grotto entrance. Once there, you transfer to rowing boats: small, low-slung wooden craft that glide through the narrow opening into the cave itself. The grotto's famous electric-blue water and the way light bounces off the stone are things you see from inside the boat, not from a distance. Weather and sea state decide whether the grotto opens on any given day, so if conditions close it, the operator runs a boat tour around the island instead.

After the grotto, the minibus climbs to Anacapri, the highest settlement on the island. You have roughly two hours there to walk the small village, sit in a café, or ride the chairlift up Mount Solaro if you want the full-island view from the top. The pace is yours. The guide is there, but this part is not a march through stops. Then the group descends into the center of Capri, where the Piazzetta sits surrounded by narrow lanes lined with expensive shops. The walk ends at Augustus Garden, a terraced green space that frames the Faraglioni: the three tall rock stacks that are Capri's most photographed landmark.

The whole experience runs eight to nine hours from start to finish. Transport, the Blue Grotto entrance fee, and entry to Augustus Garden are included. A guide in your chosen language is with the group throughout. You'll need to arrange your own ferry to the port if you're starting from Naples, or you can book the tour to depart from Capri itself if you're already on the island.

Is this one for you?Book the departure from Naples port if you need ferry tickets included and want everything arranged in one package. Choose the Capri port departure if you're already on the island or prefer to arrange your own ferry. Either way, the minibus and rowboat access mean you see the Blue Grotto from inside the cave rather than from a tour boat offshore, and you reach Augustus Garden on foot so the Faraglioni views hit differently than they do from a distance.

What happens if the Blue Grotto is closed when I visit?

The Blue Grotto's opening depends on weather and sea conditions, which change daily. If it is closed, the operator runs a boat tour around the island instead, so you still spend time on the water but see the coastline from outside rather than entering the cave.

Do I need to book a ferry to get to Capri, or is that included?

Ferry tickets from Naples to Capri are not included in the tour price if you choose the departure from Capri port. You arrange your own transport to Marina Grande. If you book the tour departing from Naples port at Beverello, ferry tickets are included in the package.

How much time do I spend in Anacapri, and what can I do there?

You have roughly two hours in Anacapri. You can walk through the village, sit at a café, or pay separately to ride the chairlift up Mount Solaro for views across the entire island. The chairlift ticket is not included in the tour price.

Is lunch included in the tour?

Lunch is not included. You'll have time to eat in Anacapri or Capri town, where you can choose from local restaurants and cafés, but you arrange and pay for your own meal.

What is Augustus Garden, and why is it part of the tour?

Augustus Garden is a terraced garden in central Capri that overlooks the Faraglioni: the three famous rock stacks that rise from the sea and are the island's most iconic landmark. The garden is where the tour ends, and the view from there is considered the best vantage point for seeing those stacks.
