Snorkeling in Capri: Boat tour with Faraglioni & grottoes
Swim inside sea caves and past the Faraglioni without renting your own boat
Snorkel around Capri on a shared boat tour with a local captain, visiting natural grottoes, the Faraglioni rock formations and secluded coves for three hours of swimming and diving. The boat carries a maximum of twelve people, includes snorkeling gear, towels, an aperitif with prosecco and limoncello, and stops at sites most day-trippers miss. A live guide in English or Italian narrates the route and the island's history.

The experience
The boat leaves from Marina Grande and circles the entire island, stopping at five or six anchor points where you swim and snorkel. You get a mask, fins and a towel. The boat has a bathroom, changing cabin and hot shower on board. Between swims, the captain navigates past the White Grotto (limestone walls that glow in the sunlight), the Green Grotto (emerald-lit and filled with stalactites), and the Faraglioni: four rock formations that rise from the sea, each one named and each one a photo stop. The boat's Hi-Fi system plays music during the breaks, and you can charge your phone and camera on board.
The aperitif comes at Punta Ventroso, a rocky cove where the crew sets out prosecco, limoncello, water, beer and fresh snacks. From there you can wade to the shore or stay on deck. The route also passes the Mermaid's Rock (linked to the Odyssey), the Sailors' Cave, and the Malaparte Villa: a 1930s architectural landmark perched on the cliff above. The captain knows the anecdotes and myths tied to each site and will point out details most tourists never see.
Bad weather can force a reschedule or full refund. The tour runs rain or shine otherwise, though the itinerary may shift slightly if conditions demand it. Groups max out at twelve people. You'll need a valid ID and must be at least 18 to drink the prosecco and limoncello. Public transport reaches the departure point. The crew also offers assisted pickup and drop-off from nearby private docks if you arrange it.

Is this one for you?Choose the three-hour option if you want time to linger at multiple grottoes and take photos without rushing. The two-hour tour hits the highlights but moves faster between stops. Either way, you're on a boat with a local captain who knows the hidden corners, so you'll see sites that land-based tours miss, and you can swim whenever the boat anchors rather than watching from the shore.
Traveler reviews
Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between the two-hour and three-hour snorkeling options?
The two-hour tour covers the main grottoes and the Faraglioni with fewer anchor stops. The three-hour tour adds extra swimming time and visits more hidden coves, including the White Grotto, Green Grotto, and the cove at Punta Ventroso where the aperitif is served.
Do I need to bring my own snorkeling gear?
No. Masks, fins and a towel are included. The boat also has a changing cabin, hot shower and bathroom on board, plus charging stations for your phone and camera.
What are the Faraglioni and why do people photograph them?
The Faraglioni are four massive rock formations rising from the sea off Capri's coast: Saetta (attached to the island), Monacone, Stella and Scopolo. They're the most recognizable landmark in Capri and have inspired artists and legends for centuries. The captain will pause so you can take photos and videos.
Is the aperitif included, and what does it consist of?
Yes. At Punta Ventroso, the crew serves prosecco, limoncello, beer, water, soda and fresh snacks at no extra cost. You must be at least 18 to drink alcohol.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Bad weather can force the tour to be rescheduled to another date or cancelled for a full refund. The captain may also adjust the itinerary if conditions require it, but the tour generally runs unless conditions make it unsafe.
How many people go on each boat, and will I be with a large group?
Groups are capped at twelve people maximum, so the boat stays small and intimate. This is a shared tour, not a private charter.
