The experience

The boat leaves Sorrento at 8:45 AM from the port in front of Bar Ruccio, where your skipper Roberta will meet you and escort everyone aboard. From there you sail past the Baths of Queen Giovanna (the ruins of a 1st-century Roman villa where the Queen herself once bathed), and along the Lubrense coast toward Capri. The route takes you by Villa Jovis, the clifftop residence of the Roman Emperor Tiberius, visible from the water below.

Once you reach Capri, you'll have 3 to 3.5 hours to explore the island on your own: walk the town center, eat at a seaside restaurant (the crew can recommend one), or simply sit by the water. The boat will wait. Before that free time, you stop at the Green Grotto, where the water reflects an emerald green, and you'll pass the entrance to the Blue Grotto, though the wait to enter it runs over 1.5 hours, so it's shown from the boat instead. You also pass the Natural Arch, Capri's largest sea arch, and Marina Piccola, the island's former main port.

The Faraglioni rocks (the three stacks of stone that define Capri and have starred in dozens of films) come into view during the sail. There's a swim stop where you can use the snorkeling mask, and the boat has an onboard shower to rinse off. The cabin lets you change clothes, and the restroom is available throughout the day. Soft drinks, water, and beer are served on board. You return to Sorrento in the late afternoon.

What’s included

  • Professional skipper and crew.
  • onboard restroom and freshwater shower.
  • soft drinks, water, and beer throughout the day.
  • snorkeling mask for the swim stop.
  • cabin for changing clothes.

Is this one for you?Small groups of up to 12 work best here. You stay close enough that the skipper can point out details like the Roman villa and the Faraglioni's film history, but large enough that the boat feels social. The 3 to 3.5 hours of free time on the island suits anyone who wants to see Capri's famous rocks and grottoes from the water without spending the whole day on a guided itinerary.

What exactly is the Green Grotto and why is it worth seeing?
