The experience
The boat leaves Marina Grande in the late afternoon and heads straight to the quietest moment of the day on the water. You'll pass under the arch of the Faraglione di Mezzo (the middle rock of the three famous formations), and stop to swim and snorkel in the Green Grotto, where the water turns green from the play of light on the limestone walls. The White Grotto comes next, its ceiling hung with white stalactites and its sides crusted with limestone deposits. You'll also visit the Coral Cave, named for the red corals visible just below the surface, and the Sailors' Cave in Marina Piccola's bay.
Between the grottoes, the boat passes Villa Malaparte, a private house that seems to rise straight from the rocky promontory, and the Natural Arch: an eroded rock formation shaped by wind and water over centuries. The skipper will position the boat so you can photograph the Faraglioni from the water, a view you cannot get from land. Snorkelling equipment, beach towels and fresh water for rinsing are on board. As the sun approaches the horizon, you'll anchor near the second-largest lighthouse in Italy, which sits on the southwestern point of the island: the spot locals choose for the best sunset light.
When the light turns gold, an aperitif arrives: Prosecco, soda, bottled water and snacks. The boat has a Bluetooth stereo, so the soundtrack is yours to choose. The whole experience runs about two and a half hours from start to finish.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between the Green Grotto and the White Grotto on this tour?
The Green Grotto's water appears green because of how light reflects off the limestone walls and the cave's opening. The White Grotto is named for the white stalactites hanging from the ceiling and the white limestone crusting its sides.
Can I swim and snorkel during the tour, or is it just sightseeing from the boat?
You swim and snorkel at multiple stops. The tour includes snorkelling equipment and beach towels, and the boat anchors at the grottoes so you can get in the water.
What time does the sunset tour depart, and how long does it take?
The tour runs about two and a half hours and departs in the late afternoon, timed so the aperitif arrives as the sun sets near the lighthouse on the southwestern point of the island.
Is this tour private, or will there be other groups on the boat?
This is a private boat tour: your group travels alone with the skipper, not shared with other passengers.
What's included in the aperitif at sunset?
The aperitif includes Prosecco, soda, bottled water and snacks. Snorkelling gear, beach towels and a fresh water shower are also provided.
