The experience
The boat leaves Sorrento port and follows the coastline past Marina Grande, a village of pastel-colored houses, then passes the Baths of Queen Giovanna. The remains of a 1st century Roman seaside villa built into the cliff. As you approach Capri, the sea caves begin: the Blue Grotto (weather and sea conditions permitting), the Green Grotto carved from dolomite, the oldest sedimentary rock on the island, and the White Grotto, where stalactites and stalagmites stand out against white limestone and deep blue water. Each cave has its own light and color because of how the sun hits the water and rock.
You'll pass the Faraglioni rocks (three legendary limestone stacks rising from the sea), and stop to photograph them. Punta Carena Lighthouse, one of Italy's oldest, stands on the island's wild side above deep water. At any point, you can ask the skipper to stop for a swim in the turquoise water. The boat carries beach towels, masks and life jackets. Soft drinks, water, beer, seasonal fruit and a bottle of prosecco are on board, along with a restroom and outdoor shower.
You can request time to disembark and explore Capri's town center on foot: a docking fee applies at the port. Otherwise, the day is yours to shape: linger at a cave, swim longer, adjust the pace. The boat returns to Sorrento around 4:30 pm. Choose between a 30-foot or 38-foot boat, or depart from Positano instead if that suits your base.

Is this one for you?Book the 30-foot boat if your group is smaller and you want a more intimate pace. The 38-foot boat suits larger groups or those who prefer more deck space. If you're based in Positano, the departure from there saves the drive to Sorrento and lets you start the day on the water sooner.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and Italian.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can we stop and swim in the sea during the tour?
Yes, you can ask the skipper to stop for a swim at any time. The boat provides beach towels, scuba masks and life jackets, and the water around Capri is clear and calm enough for swimming throughout the day.
What are the sea caves like, and can we go inside them?
The Blue Grotto, Green Grotto and White Grotto are natural limestone caves where sunlight reflects off the water in shades of blue, green and emerald. The Blue Grotto visit depends on weather and sea conditions. The Green Grotto is composed of dolomite, the oldest rock on Capri, and the White Grotto features stalactites and stalagmites against white limestone walls. You view them from the boat and can enter the Blue Grotto if conditions allow.
Is there time to get off the boat and walk around Capri town?
Yes, on request the skipper can disembark you at Marina Grande in Capri's port. A docking fee (€100 for the boat plus €5 per person) is paid on site, and you have free time to explore the island center before returning to the boat.
What's included in the tour price?
Beach towels, scuba masks and life jackets; soft drinks, water, beer and seasonal fruit; a bottle of prosecco; and a professional skipper with an English-speaking assistant on board. The boat has a restroom and outdoor shower. Meals, the Blue Grotto entrance fee, and gratuities are separate.
How long is the tour, and when do we return to Sorrento?
The tour runs seven to eight hours, departing from Sorrento port and returning around 4:30 pm. The exact timing depends on which stops you choose and how long you spend at each one.
Can we book a private boat just for our group?
Yes, this is a private boat tour for your group only. You choose between a 30-foot or 38-foot boat, or can depart from Positano if preferred. The skipper and assistant work with your preferences throughout the day.
