The experience
The boat leaves from Sorrento and heads straight for Capri's coastline, where the skipper navigates past the Faraglioni rocks: three imposing stone formations that rise from the sea and mark the island's most recognizable silhouette. The route passes four sea caves: the Blue Grotto, where filtered light creates that signature deep blue; the White Grotto, lined with white stalactites and calcareous layers; the Green Grotto, its waters colored by light reflection off the rock; and the Coral Grotto, where red corals coat the stone. Between cave stops, you get time to swim and snorkel in the open water, with equipment provided on board.
Once you reach Capri town, you have free time to walk La Piazzetta, the central square, or climb to Augustus' gardens for views across the island. Via Camerelle, the main shopping street, runs past high-end boutiques if that appeals. Lunch at a seaside restaurant is on you, but the boat carries soft drinks, prosecco and appetizers throughout the day. A restroom on board means you don't have to plan around facilities on shore.
The five boat options range from shared group cruises to fully private charters, and you choose at checkout. All include the same skipper, snorkel gear and prosecco. The difference is who else is on board and how much say you have in the route. The seven to eight hour duration gives the caves, snorkeling and town time room to breathe without feeling rushed.

Is this one for you?Choose a private boat if your group wants full control over timing and stops. A shared cruise works if you're comfortable with other travelers and want a lower price. Either way, the skipper's local knowledge of which caves are passable that day and where the clearest water is makes the difference between a standard boat ride and one where you actually see what you came for.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is the Blue Grotto actually like when you get there?
The Blue Grotto is Capri's most famous sea cave, entered through a partially submerged opening that lets external light filter in and create a deep blue water color. It's the signature stop on the route and the one most visitors photograph.
Can you snorkel on this cruise, or is it just sightseeing from the boat?
You stop to snorkel and swim in the water between cave visits. Snorkeling equipment is provided on board, and the skipper chooses calm spots based on conditions that day.
How much free time do you actually get in Capri town?
The itinerary includes free time to explore Capri town on your own. You can visit La Piazzetta, walk Via Camerelle or climb to Augustus' gardens. The exact length depends on how the skipper structures the day around the cave stops.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to pay for separately?
The boat, skipper, snorkel gear, prosecco and appetizers are included. Lunch at a restaurant in town is separate, as are any landing fees or gratuities you choose to give.
Do I need to book a private boat, or can I join a group?
You choose at checkout: the five options range from shared group cruises to fully private boats. All follow the same route and include the same equipment and skipper. The difference is group size and how flexible the itinerary can be.
