Ever wondered what it’s like to stand in the middle of Kathmandu Durbar Square as the city wakes up? I didn’t know what to expect—maybe a bit of chaos, maybe something more peaceful. Turns out, it’s both. Our guide Suman pointed out carvings I’d have walked right past, and I remember the smell of incense mixing with dust and chai. The monkeys at Syambhunath were less spiritual—one nearly stole my snack—but honestly, that just made me laugh. We drifted through Patan’s alleys where artists still tap away at metal statues; I tried saying “Namaste” properly and got a big grin back.

The drive to Pokhara was longer than I thought (six hours), but watching the hills roll by through the window was strangely calming. By the time we reached Phewa Lake, the air felt different—cleaner, softer somehow. Renting a paddle boat there is one of those things you don’t think much about until you’re actually floating, looking up at Machhapuchhre reflected in the water. Our local guide told us stories about Barahi Temple on its little island—he said if you listen closely you can hear bells even when nobody’s there. Maybe he was teasing us? Still not sure.

Sarangkot sunrise is hyped up everywhere but…yeah, it really did something to me. Everyone stood quietly as the light hit Annapurna—no talking, just this soft wind and camera shutters clicking. Later that day we stumbled into Mahendra Cave (I’m not great with bats) and then watched water disappear underground at Davis Falls. There’s a lot of small surprises on this private Nepal tour; sometimes it’s just a kid waving from a rice field or someone offering you tea for no reason.

Chitwan felt like stepping into another world—mud huts in Tharu village, elephant trunks reaching for fruit, peacocks screaming somewhere out of sight. The safari wasn’t what I pictured; it was slower, more about noticing things: paw prints in mud, heat rising off grasslands. At night there was dancing by firelight—I tried joining in but mostly tripped over my own feet (the locals were polite enough not to laugh too hard). On our last day in Nagarkot, clouds hid Everest for a while but then cleared just enough for us all to fall silent again. Sometimes I still see that view when I close my eyes.
