The day starts at Swayambhunath, a hilltop temple with over 3,000 years of history that gives a panoramic view of the city and stands as one of Nepal's main Buddhist pilgrimage destinations. From there, the private vehicle carries you to Kathmandu Durbar Square, where you see the ornate 16th-century royal residence and the palace of the Kumari—a virgin girl worshipped as the living goddess Durga in human form, who can sometimes be glimpsed at her windows. The structure carries four pairs of eyes of Lord Buddha facing the cardinal directions, and Tibetan Buddhist pilgrims circle it while spinning prayer wheels.
