The experience

You arrive at the airport and transfer to your hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu's tourist quarter. If time allows on day one, you can walk to Swayambhunath or Kathmandu Durbar Square before settling in. The next morning, a guide takes you through the city's main sights: the Monkey Temple, Durbar Square, Pashupatinath and Boudhnath. All within the Kathmandu Valley's UNESCO World Heritage zone. These are the temples and palaces the description emphasizes: ancient structures built centuries ago, not reconstructed versions.

On day three you drive to Pokhara, a five-hour journey through Nepal's middle hills. The route passes Manakamana Temple, which you can reach by cable car if you choose (the ticket is separate). You arrive in Pokhara in the evening and have time to walk the lakeside. The next day starts before dawn: a drive to Sarankot for sunrise over the Himalayas and a view of Mount Fishtail reflected in Fewa Lake. The rest of the day is a half-day sightseeing loop through Davis Falls, the cave system, Bindabasini Temple, the white river and the World Peace Pagoda. You'll also boat on Fewa Lake, which is the water-based moment the itinerary names.

Day five is the return drive to Kathmandu, with time for rest, sightseeing or shopping. On the final morning, you have a few hours before the airport transfer and departure. Throughout the tour, you stay in 3-star hotels in Thamel and Pokhara. All entrance fees, transport by private vehicle, and taxes are included. Meals are not: breakfast is at the hotel, but lunch and dinner are on your own, which gives you flexibility to eat where you want in each city.

What's the difference between Kathmandu and Pokhara on this tour?

Do I need to arrange my own transport between the cities?
