The experience
Your driver picks you up at your Petra hotel and drives roughly ninety minutes to Wadi Rum, Jordan's largest desert landscape. Once there, you board a Jeep with a local Bedouin at the wheel who knows the terrain and its history. The desert itself is the attraction: vast ancient riverbeds, red sand dunes, and rock formations scattered across the protected area. You'll pass the remains of the Nabatean Temple, rock inscriptions carved into the stone, and the natural rock bridge Um Frouth, which stands as one of Wadi Rum's most distinctive landmarks.
How long you spend in the Jeep is your choice: two hours, three hours, or four hours. The longer routes let you venture deeper into the landscape and see more of the remote corners. If you book the four-hour option, a picnic lunch box is available to add. Once you're done exploring, the driver takes you to Aqaba (about an hour's drive from Wadi Rum), and drops you at your hotel. If you want to ride a camel while you're in Wadi Rum, that's arranged on the spot at your own cost.
