Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Wadi Rum desert highlights

  • See camels and optional camel ride
  • Admire ancient petroglyphs in canyon
  • Enjoy activities in long canyon
  • Visit Nabataean temple near Rum Village
  • Admire and photograph natural rock arch
  • Watch sunset from desert viewpoint
  • Walk through another stunning canyon
  • See the natural Burdah rock bridge

The experience

Wadi Rum's scale and geology demand a guide who knows where the light hits and which canyon opens onto what. Majed was born in the desert, which means the stops (the petroglyphs carved into canyon rock, the five-kilometre stretch where you walk and sandboard, the Nabataean temple dated to the first century BC, the fifteen-metre Burdah arch) land in sequence rather than by accident. The tour runs six hours and covers the landmarks most visitors come for: the rock formations that have been photographed for decades, the canyons deep enough to feel like another world, and the sunset viewed from the vantage point locals choose.

What you do changes by the hour. Early stops let you see the camels and, if you want, ride for 30 minutes or an hour (that costs extra, starting at 15 JOD). The long canyon is where sandboarding happens, included in the full day, and where the walk itself becomes the point. Lunch and water come with the tour. A second canyon, thirty to forty minutes on foot, is optional and Majed will drop you at the entrance and pick you up at the exit. The Burdah bridge is the natural arch most people come to photograph, and the sunset is timed to the clearest view in the desert.

Groups stay between 2 and 15 people, which means the tour scales to what you book. Contact in advance to arrange the details that matter, which activities, which pace, whether the camel ride and the second canyon fit your day. Children are welcome from age 7.
