Snorkeling in Nusa Penida from Bali: Manta Bay & Kelingking
Eleven hours in the water at Manta Bay, Gamat Bay, and two clifftop viewpoints
A full-day snorkeling activity departing from your Bali hotel at 6:30 AM, crossing by fast boat to Nusa Penida, and exploring two snorkeling sites by boat before visiting Kelingking and Broken Beach on land. The defining trait is the two-location snorkel sequence (Gamat Bay and Manta Bay), where you spend roughly two hours underwater with shared gear, and the chance to encounter manta rays if conditions align. Includes hotel pickup and drop-off, all transport between sites, lunch, water, guide and insurance for the crossing.

The experience
You leave your Bali hotel at 6:30 AM and travel to Sanur pier, where a fast boat carries you across to Nusa Penida. A local guide meets you on arrival and takes you by boat to the first snorkeling site at Gamat Bay, then to Manta Bay: the centerpiece of the day. You'll spend roughly two hours in the water across both locations with snorkeling gear, exploring reef life and the open water where manta rays occasionally pass through. The boat stays with you, and the guide navigates the sites.
After snorkeling, the day shifts to land. A vehicle takes you to Kelingking, a clifftop viewpoint shaped like a giant finger rising from the sea, then to Broken Beach (Pasih Uug), where connected rock formations create a natural ring visible from above and a sheltered pool below. Lunch and water are provided during the afternoon before you return to Sanur pier and your hotel, arriving back in Bali by late afternoon.
The crossing itself is insured, and the boat is shared. You're not alone in the water. The island's roads are narrow and the heat is direct, so the pace is steady rather than rushed. A guide who speaks English or Malay stays with the group throughout, handling logistics and pointing out what to watch for underwater.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Malay.
What's the water like at Manta Bay and Gamat Bay?
Both sites are open-water snorkeling locations where you enter from the boat. Manta Bay is known for manta rays, though sightings depend on season and conditions. Gamat Bay offers reef and marine life. You spend roughly two hours total across both sites with shared snorkeling gear.
How early do I need to wake up, and when do I get back?
Hotel pickup is at 6:30 AM, so you'll need to be ready before dawn. The full day runs 11 hours, and you return to your Bali hotel by late afternoon after the boat crossing back to Sanur.
What's included in the price?
Hotel pickup and drop-off in Bali, fast boat transport both ways, snorkeling gear, entry to Kelingking and Broken Beach, lunch, bottled water, a local guide who speaks English or Malay, and insurance for the sea crossing are all included.
Is this snorkeling suitable if I've never done it before?
The activity requires at least moderate physical fitness and a minimum age of 13. It's not recommended for travelers with heart or respiratory conditions, spinal injuries, or a history of seasickness or epilepsy. If you're a beginner swimmer, discuss comfort in open water with the operator before booking.
What should I bring or wear?
Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard or light shirt for sun protection, and a towel. Wear water shoes or sandals for the boat and rocky entry points. The atmosphere on the island is hot, so light, quick-dry clothing works best for the land portions.
