The experience
The boat leaves early and heads straight to Manta Point, where the water depth and current patterns bring manta rays close enough to swim alongside. These are not confined animals (they're wild, passing through on their own route), so sightings depend on the season and the day's conditions. When they're there, you're in the water with them, mask on, watching them glide past at arm's length. An underwater photographer travels with the group and captures images of you in the moment, which you take home at the end of the day.
From Manta Point, the boat moves to Gamat Bay or one of the other stops (Crystal Bay, Wall Point) depending on what the water looks like that morning. Gamat Bay is shallower and calmer, built for watching schools of tropical fish move through coral formations. Wall Point drops away into deeper blue, and the corals there grow thicker and more varied. You're in the water at each stop for roughly 30 to 45 minutes, with a surface interval between dives to rest and eat. The boat crew hands you a towel, and lunch, Indonesian food, comes midday while you're still on the water.
All snorkeling gear is provided: mask, fins, snorkel and life jacket. Pickup happens from your hotel in Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Kuta, Canggu, Sanur or Ubud, and the drive to the boat launch takes time, so the full day runs 12 and a half hours from pickup to return. You choose your departure time when you book, which lets you fit the activity around the rest of your itinerary. The boat is fast and the ride back is included in the price.
Is this one for you?Choose the snorkeling-only option if you want to focus entirely on the water and skip the island stops. Pick one of the island tour combinations if you'd like to explore Nusa Penida's land attractions (temples, viewpoints, beaches) between snorkeling sessions and want a fuller day on the island itself.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 9 years). Children under 3 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I snorkel at Nusa Penida if I've never done it before?
Yes. Snorkeling at Manta Point and Gamat Bay suits all levels because you stay at the surface with a mask and snorkel, and the crew provides all gear and a life jacket. The guide and photographer are there to help you in the water.
What are the chances of seeing manta rays at Manta Point?
Manta rays pass through Manta Point seasonally and are not guaranteed on any single day. Sightings are most common in the dry season (April to November), but water conditions and time of year affect whether they appear. The crew knows the patterns and chooses the best time to visit based on the forecast.
How much time do I spend in the water versus on the boat?
You snorkel for roughly 30 to 45 minutes at each of the three or four stops, with surface intervals between them for rest and lunch. The rest of the 12-and-a-half-hour day includes hotel pickup, the boat ride to and from the sites, and the return journey.
What's the water like at Gamat Bay compared to the other snorkeling spots?
Gamat Bay has calm, clear water and is shallower than Manta Point or Wall Point, making it ideal for seeing tropical fish and corals up close without strong currents. Wall Point offers deeper water and a dramatic underwater wall covered in corals, while Manta Point is open water where the manta rays swim through.
Do I get to keep the underwater photos taken during the day?
Yes. The underwater photographer on the boat captures images of you and your group in the water, and you receive the photos at the end of the day.
