The driver pulls up to your hotel between 6 and 7:30 in the morning — timing depends on where you're staying in Seminyak — and you head straight to Sanur Harbour. No waiting around for a group to assemble; the pickup is built into the schedule. Once you're at the dock, there's a quick barcode check-in with the boat company, and then you're on the fast boat crossing the strait to Nusa Penida. The water is rough enough that you feel it, but the crossing takes less than an hour and the island appears in front of you, limestone cliffs rising up in that particular shade of grey-green you only see in photos until you're actually there.

The first stop is Kelingking Beach, and your guide walks you down to the viewpoint where the rock formation looks like a T-Rex head — that's the shot everyone wants.
