A full-day snorkeling and land tour in Nusa Penida combines three snorkeling spots with visits to four famous beaches and rock formations. You're picked up from your hotel, ferried across from Sanur, guided through the island's attractions on foot, and spend the afternoon in the water at Manta Bay, Gamat Bay and Wall Point with an instructor. The tour runs 12 hours and includes lunch, all snorkeling gear, towel and underwater photos.

The experience

Your hotel pickup starts at 6:30 am, timing you to catch the 8 am fastboat from Sanur Port to Nusa Penida. The crossing takes 45 minutes. Once you land, the day splits into two halves: the morning and early afternoon are for the land tour (Kelingking Beach at 9:30, Angel Billabong at 11, Broken Beach at 11:30), with lunch at 12:30. Each site is a short walk from the boat, and you move between them on foot. The snorkeling starts at 2 pm and runs until 4, covering three separate reefs where you'll see the marine life the area is known for.

You snorkel from a private boat with an experienced instructor who stays with the group. The package includes snorkel, fins and life jacket for each person, plus a towel and a GoPro operator who shoots underwater photos you take home. Lunch is Indonesian food. The return fastboat leaves Nusa Penida at 5 pm and arrives back in Sanur at 6 pm. Your driver meets you there and has you back at your hotel by 7 pm, though the exact time depends on traffic and your hotel location.

You can book this as snorkeling only (three spots, no land tour), the land tour alone, or the full combination. The land tour sites charge separate entry fees (25,000 IDR per adult, 15,000 IDR per child), which are not included in the package price and are paid on the day. Children from age 6 are welcome. The tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers or anyone with spinal injuries or serious heart conditions.

What is Manta Bay like when I get there to snorkel?

Manta Bay is one of three reef sites around Nusa Penida where manta rays and other reef fish are common. The snorkeling is from a private boat, and an instructor is in the water with you. You'll have snorkel, fins and a life jacket, and the operator photographs the underwater scenes on a GoPro.

Does the tour include the entry fees to Kelingking Beach and the other land sites?
