The experience

The driver picks you up from Delhi airport and takes you to your hotel. The next morning, after breakfast, your guide meets you for a full day of Delhi sightseeing: Jama Masjid (built by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1656), the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk, Humayun's Tomb (a UNESCO site and India's first garden tomb) Qutub Minar with its 73-meter brick minaret and 13th-century carvings, the Lotus Temple with its lotus-shaped design open to all faiths, India Gate war memorial, and the Presidential Palace. By evening the driver takes you to Agra.

In Agra, your guide leads you through Agra Fort (red sandstone, UNESCO-listed, with views of the Taj Mahal in the distance), then to Itmad-ud-Daulah, the "Baby Taj", with its marble inlay work and garden setting. Mehtab Bagh, a garden across the Yamuna River, sits perfectly aligned with the Taj Mahal and offers sunset views away from the crowds. On day four you rise early for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal itself, then drive toward Jaipur. On the way you stop at Fatehpur Sikri, a 16th-century red sandstone city built by Emperor Akbar and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with palaces, courtyards, and the Jama Masjid.

Jaipur's city tour takes in the City Palace (a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture, though some areas remain closed to the public), Hawa Mahal (the "Palace of Winds" with its 953 ornate windows built in 1799), and Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO site housing the world's largest stone sundial and 18th-century astronomical instruments still in use. On your final day before returning to Delhi, you visit Jaigarh Fort (18th-century, with views across Jaipur and the world's largest cannon, Jaivana), Panna Meena ka Kund (an 8th-century stepwell with symmetrical staircases), the Monkey Temple in the Aravalli hills, and Patrika Gate with its hand-painted arches. The driver then takes you back to Delhi.

The tour includes a tuk-tuk ride through Old Delhi, a live guide speaking English, Spanish, Italian, French or other languages, private air-conditioned transport throughout, hotel pickup and drop-off, all monument entrance fees, and breakfast each morning. You choose between a tour with 4-star hotels, 5-star hotels, guide and entry fees only (no accommodation), or no hotels at all. Five nights of accommodation are included in the hotel options. Note that the Lotus Temple closes Mondays and the Taj Mahal closes Fridays; hotel early check-in before 2 p.m. is not guaranteed, though luggage storage is available; and if you arrive after midnight, booking an extra night in advance is recommended. For groups of 3 or more, rooms are allocated on triple-occupancy basis unless you request otherwise (subject to availability and extra charges). During Christmas and New Year's Eve, a mandatory supplement applies, paid directly to the hotel.
