The Experience

“You’ll never forget your first view of the Taj at dawn,” our guide in Agra said, but honestly I thought he was just being poetic until we were standing there — half-awake, shivering a little in the morning haze. The marble felt cold under my hands. There were birds everywhere and this faint smell of wet grass from the gardens. I kept thinking about how quiet it was for such a famous place.
