The experience

The driver arrives at your hotel or airport at 2:30 AM and you ride in a private, air-conditioned car to Agra, about three hours. A guide meets you two minutes from the Taj Mahal entrance, and you explore the monument before the day crowds build. The guide explains the structure Emperor Shah Jahan built in 1630 for his wife and helps you frame photographs in the early light. After the Taj Mahal, you move to Agra Fort, constructed in 1565 by Emperor Akbar and a showcase of Mughal architecture.

Between the fort and your final stop, you break for a meal at a restaurant your guide knows, not a tourist menu, but the food locals eat. Then you visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah, the first Mughal building made entirely of marble, with intricate pietra dura inlay work, sitting along the Yamuna River. The guide is with you at each site.
