The Experience

Your guide meets you outside the port in the early morning with a sign showing Tour Egypt Club, then transfers you by air-conditioned vehicle to Giza. The drive to Cairo takes you straight to the pyramid complex, where you see the Great Pyramid of Khufu (built around 2560 BC as a tomb for the pharaoh and a masterpiece of ancient architecture), the Pyramid of Khafre with its retained outer casing at the top, and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure. From there you walk to the Great Sphinx (the limestone sculpture with a man's head and a lion's body that the ancient Greeks named after their mythical riddle-setter), and visit the Valley Temple of King Khafre, one of Egypt's best-preserved mortuary temples.

After the pyramids, you move to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, which holds the world's largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. The tour includes the Treasures room for the child king Tutankhamun and access to the Mummies room (an extra ticket you can buy on the spot if you choose). Lunch at a local Cairo restaurant is built into the day. If time allows, your guide takes you through Khan el-Khalili, the historic bazaar in the old city, as a complementary stop before the return journey.

The entire excursion runs 6 to 8 hours. Your driver returns you to the port well in advance of the ship's departure, so there's no rush at the end. The tour includes all entrance fees, the tourism permit, tourism police permit, a bottle of mineral water, and service charges and taxes. Your guide speaks English, and versions in Spanish, Italian, French and one additional language are available.
