The experience

I’ll admit, I was a little nervous as we pulled up to the Giza Pyramids. There’s something about seeing them in real life that makes your stomach do this weird flip. Our Egyptologist guide, Hossam, noticed and just grinned, “Wait till you stand next to Khufu.” He was right. The limestone blocks felt cold and rough under my hand, and there was this faint smell of dust and sun-baked stone. He made it sound almost simple, which is wild when you’re staring at something that old.

We wandered around to see the smaller pyramids for the queens, then stopped by the spot where they found those solar boats. I tried to picture what it looked like thousands of years ago: camels groaning somewhere behind us kind of broke the spell. The panoramic view is where my partner just went quiet for a minute. Honestly, I did too. That’s one of those moments you don’t expect: the silence felt heavy but good.
